Essential Harvest Tips to Look, Before this Harvesting Season!

Harvesting with large and latest machines no doubt reduces workload and brings the better way of producing crops every year. However, at the same time, this increases the likelihood of accidents and damages.

Therefore, if you wish to accomplish everything timely and safely, start with the following tips of safe harvesting on the field.   
      
· Become organized, with Tools/Equipment, Basic Safety Walkthrough, Electrical Check
Tools and Equipment

ü Before commencing with the purchase of the latest advanced tools and harvesting equipment for the agricultural field, make sure you have the manual of operation and owner with you.
ü Next, review all the specifications of maintenance and operations, and in case the service of the machine is required, go ahead for it.
ü For better working of the equipment, it is wise to maintain a servicing checklist for the same.
ü Search and organize all the parts like fans, augers, and conveyors, for their durability.
ü Also, keep looking for any latest parts or tools, which may help in harvesting the crop more easily.

Basic Safety Walkthrough

ü Primarily, have first aid kit at the agricultural site.
ü Inspect and repair other helping tools like a ladder, platforms, steps, and handrails. To add on, remove the protruding objects that can cause injury.
ü Examine any loose safety covers, natural gas lines, connections or fittings
ü Draw and paste warning and safety signs at each place of the field.

Besides this, for employees and family members working in the field, make sure they’re know how to use all the tools and equipment at the site. Additionally, they must be aware, when to seek help during bodily injury or damage.

Electrical Check

ü Examine all the open, overhead, and exposed the wiring
ü Keep assessing the switches, panels, and Honda Power Generators working
ü Keep the electrical boxes watertight and waterproof with proper grounding.

· Maintain efficiency with Grain Dryer and Grain-receiving Equipment, and Bin Aeration Floor

Grain dryer

ü Inspect the burner, and if there is any rust or cracks, make sure to clean or replace it, timely.
ü In case, the fan has worn out parts, any rust, or damage on the internal or external screens, get it affixed or replaced.
ü If the discharge auger is not maintained in a good condition, it can further increase the damage to the equipment as well as the grains.
Grain-Receiving equipment

ü The prime duty is to keep the elevator boot section free of any debris.
ü Also, if any other components like bucket elevator’s cups, belt, and drive pulley have worn out; consider replacing them.
ü To keep the augers in good working condition, auger flighting is to be included. However, if this component is not serviced timely, there are chances that it may damage the kernels, too. Consequently, damaging the grains by microorganisms and molds.

Bin aeration floor

ü Remove the debris and dust from the floor gates and sumps.
ü Examine the conveying equipment or bin aeration systems periodically for smooth operation.
ü Inspect the roof vents of the bin and replace the damaged one, if any. Also, if there are any moisture potential areas near the vents, get them serviced immediately.
